Our house stands on the Rheinuferstraße in Assmannshausen, five kilometres downstream from Rüdesheim. There is no bridge across the Rhine between Mainz and Koblenz, but the ferries shuttle back and forth. If you come from the other bank, your first minutes on the river are spent on the water.

From Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, take the A 66 and then follow the B 42 along the Rhine, past Eltville and Rüdesheim. Frankfurt Airport is around 60 kilometres away. From Mainz, Koblenz and the A 61, take the car ferry in Bingen across to Rüdesheim and follow the B 42 five kilometres downstream.
The Bingen–Rüdesheim car ferry is your most reliable link: it shuttles without a timetable from early morning until late at night, and the crossing takes about six minutes. Further downstream, the ferry crosses from Niederheimbach to Lorch. On foot, you can also take the passenger ferry from Bingen Stadt to Rüdesheim from March to early November.
The RheingauLinie RB 10 links Frankfurt and Wiesbaden via Rüdesheim with Koblenz and stops hourly at Assmannshausen station, a short walk from us. From Rüdesheim it is just a few minutes. From the left bank, travel to Bingen Stadt and cross to Rüdesheim by ferry.
The loveliest way to arrive: from late March to early November, excursion boats from Rüdesheim, Bingen and the Middle Rhine Valley call at Assmannshausen. Tickets are sold on board.
The Rhine cycle route runs right past our house, and all ferries take bicycles. Your bikes are kept under cover and locked, and motorbikes park right in front of the house.
