Our house is old, properly old. Wine has been grown here, and travellers welcomed, since 1752: first the towpath haulers and Rhine voyagers, today walkers, wine lovers and anyone who wants the river outside their window.

Hotel Schön is the main house and, right beside it, the guest house, wall to wall on the Rheinuferstraße. Both look out over the river, and between them they have 23 rooms.
This is where it all began. Over the centuries the house has been renewed time and again, and parts of it still date from 1752. Today it wears a sweeping Art Nouveau gable and ceilings of up to 3.5 metres. Here you will find the suites, the deluxe rooms with balcony and the large rooms. A lift takes you to every floor.
On the ground floor we welcome you, you breakfast behind large windows onto the terrace, and the leaded glass window with the towpath haulers tells of days gone by.
A couple of steps from the main house, with flower boxes on the balconies. Here are our double rooms with their own balcony and the triple rooms: simple, bright and all with a view of the Rhine. There is no lift here, only stairs.
To the roomsBeneath the old wisteria you sit in the front row by the river, and under the awnings when it rains. With it, wine from Weingut Karl Schön, the family wine estate, served in a carafe, and cake from our confectioner Hans Kellner.
Restaurant & Terrace
The wine estate remains in the Schön family. Riesling from the Rüdesheim vineyards and Spätburgunder from the Assmannshäuser Höllenberg are still made here in the cellar to this day, and the 2026 harvest is safely in. With us, you drink the wines by the carafe on the terrace.
We are only just beginning.
We have been your hosts here since July 2026. We are changing the house step by step: historic, but not historicising, as our interior designer Evi Märklstetter puts it. Here we tell you what is happening.
Our first evening in the house, and the Rhine joined the celebration: for “Rhein in Flammen” (Rhine in Flames), fireworks lit up the sky above the river. We could not have wished for a finer welcome.
We have revived the evening menu and extended our opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 2 pm, with hearty classics in the evening from 6 to 9 pm.

Weingut Karl Schön has brought the grapes in from the steep vineyards. Now the young wines are at work in the cellar beneath the house.
Visit the wine estateChristmas time with our event weekends in Advent and at New Year: Christmas market, Feuerzangenbowle, a goose dinner, and to see in the New Year, music, wines from the estate and a small fireworks display by the river.
The Advent weekendsDuring the winter break we are renovating gently to make things even cosier for all our guests: in the dining room and in some of the rooms. We will report here as soon as work begins.
